KUCHING: The relevant authorities should urgently replace missing and damaged railings on a bridge over the Bukar River.
Villagers nearby, including those from Kampung Panchor Dayak, Mile 27, Old Kuching-Serian Road, said the missing railings posed great danger to motorists, especially those travelling at night.
The villagers believed the railings were stolen by scrap metal thieves.
A villager from Kampung Panchor, Winston Way Dikod, who claimed to represent the villagers, said, “As of now, three or four stainless steel railings originally installed on the bridge are gone. Only one remained but even that is already partly dismantled.”

He believed the remaining one would also disappear in no time.
“Just last week, all four railings were still intact. But, by this morning, only the partially damaged one was still standing. The rest are all gone,” he added.
Winston said looking at the size and weight of the railings, they believed the railings were transported using big vehicles.
“The villagers are also appealing to the elected representatives of the area, police, the Serian District Council, together with the District Office and any other relevant departments, to have the missing railings replaced urgently,” he said.
