NILAI: National track cyclist Muhammad Ridwan Sahrom (pic) has set his sights on becoming the country’s sprint king after successfully proving his excellent performance in the sprint event in the President’s Cup Series Two and Three at the National Velodrome on Tuesday.
Muhammad Ridwan, who is more affectionately known as ‘Boy’, said he wanted to make a difference by making the event his favourite and felt it had the potential to be the place for him to create surprises in the future. At the President’s Cup Series Three action on that day, Boy won the gold medal in the men’s elite sprint event, leaving behind Australian rider Sam Gallagher with the silver while the bronze went to his teammate Mohd Akmal Nazimi Jusena. In light of the accomplishment made, he had also clocked in over a new personal record at over 9.921 seconds (s) in the qualifying round, which renewed his enthusiasm to chase the title of the country’s sprint king.
“If I were to do something different, I would place my focus on sprinting because I think that would be the best platform for me to showcase my skills,” he said when met by reporters after the championship. In the First Series, Boy only won a bronze medal in the sprint event while the Second Series saw him grab the gold. – BERNAMA
