KUCHING: The highly anticipated Borneo Inspires Legacy Awards (BILA) 2025 is gearing up to honour outstanding contributions to the global business events industry.
This year’s awards, organised by Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak), celebrate outstanding legacies across the business events sector, including a category for journalists, to recognise achievements in legacy, sustainability, and innovation.
Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that BILA is a chance to recognise those who are directly or indirectly contributing to the success of Sarawak’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030.
“It’s exciting to expand the iconic Anak Sarawak Awards into the Borneo Inspires Legacy Awards, a global awards ceremony.
“We have many strategic partners around the world whose actions have made an impact on Sarawak’s business events sector and they deserve to be seen and recognised,” he said.
Abdul Karim, who is also BESarawak chairman, said that BILA is a platform to inspire the industry and showcase how business events can deliver value beyond the event itself.
“We are the first and only in Malaysia and Borneo with an award programme focusing on the all-round impacts of business events,” he said.
Meanwhile, BESarawak chief executive officer (CEO) Amelia Roziman said that BILA is the celebration element in Sarawak’s brand-new homegrown forum, LEGACY360.
“This is Southeast Asia’s first forum dedicated to business event legacies and the perfect way to top it off is to host BILA.
“BILA nominees must have made their achievements between 2023 and June 2025.
“Nominations can be made by individuals and organisations connected to the business events sector. Self-nominations are accepted and nominations are open globally,” she said.
For the record, submissions for BILA 2025 will be accepted from March 1 to June 2025, inviting nominees from various sectors to showcase their efforts in creating positive, enduring legacies.
The awards are open to business event planners, industry vendors and suppliers, journalists, and other professionals from Malaysia and around the world.
With 18 awards across five categories, BILA recognises individuals and organisations making a transformative difference in Sarawak and beyond.
The categories include Conventions Legacy Excellence, Exhibitions Legacy Excellence, Corporate Meetings & Incentives Corporate Social Responsibility, Sarawak Industry, and Journalism.
These categories are further divided into subcategories focusing on economic, environmental, social, and honorary (encompassing economic, environmental, and social achievements).
For the Journalism category, the subcategories specifically focus on broadcast, print, and online platforms.
All nominations submissions must be completed through the official BILA 2025 online platform. .
The winners of the Borneo Inspires Legacy Awards 2025 will be unveiled during a grand gala dinner on November 1 2025.
