SERIAN: Closure of the country’s borders due to the Covid-19 pandemic does not hinder Malaysia’s joint ventures and trade with Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.

The Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to East Asia Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem said to further strengthen joint ventures and trade between Malaysia and East Asia, he had planned to further expand the businesses of existing investors based in the country.

He added that several virtual discussions and meetings were held with ambassadors from the three countries to review the business opportunities that could be pursued.

At the same time, he hoped that companies in Malaysia would also work hard to continue to find investors, especially from Japan and South Korea.

“A total of 1,400 giant companies from Japan, which have been established in the country, have been able to provide employment opportunities to 300,400 Malaysians.

“In fact, not one of their staff lost their jobs during this pandemic period.

“This matter has convinced me more to cooperate with them where, they have given very positive feedback,” he said when met after launching SMK Serian carpark upgrading project on Thursday.

Asked on whether big investors would also invest in Sarawak, he said he was very confident they would do so because Sarawak is a very economically stable state.
