KUCHING: Pustaka Negeri Sarawak 2023 Media and Information Literacy Week Programme, now in its 4th edition, is set to kick off at the Sarawak State Library from October 24 to 31.
The programme is to be held in conjunction with the Global Media and Information Literacy Week, as celebrated under the banner of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
It has three key objectives which is to show support for the Global Media and Information Literacy Week, endorsed by UNESCO, to elevate media and information literacy skills, enabling individuals to access, assess, and utilise information accurately and appropriately and to promote lifelong learning within the community.
“This programme offers a diverse array of activities designed to enrich participants with knowledge and skills, empowering them to become more discerning in their information-seeking endeavours,” it said through a statement.
The activities, which are offered free of charge, include webinars, training on database usage, a Literacy Information Trail competition, informative lectures on evading “Scammer” schemes, and discussions on identifying Red Flags in Children’s Communication and Development.

In an innovative move, this year’s programme extends beyond information literacy, with a special focus on financial literacy and mental health literacy.
