KUCHING: Sarawakians in Malaya who want to return home are encouraged to book their flights early following the reduction of flight tickets to the state during the festive season.

State Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin stated that it is preferable to book air tickets in advance rather than waiting till the last minute.

“Buy your plane tickets as soon as possible because the ticketing system is based on dynamic pricing.

“The lowest price is adjusted based on supply and demand. So, if you find a cheap airline ticket, book it right away on the airline website,” he said.

He said this to reporters when questioned about updates on reduced airfares from Malaya to Sarawak at the breaking-of-fast ceremony with the media organised by the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here, yesterday.

Despite the fact that the issue of plane tickets has been resolved, Lee stated that his ministry would continue to monitor the situation.

Meanwhile, the federal Minister of Transport (MOT) Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong in a statement yesterday announced that the one-way economy class flight ticket prices to most destinations from Malaya to Sabah and Sarawak have decreased significantly for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“As a result of MOT’s proactive actions in collaboration with MAVCOM and domestic airlines, as well as the Prime Minister’s approval, one-way economy class flight ticket prices to most destinations from Malaya to Sabah and Sarawak have shown a significant decrease for this year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri,” he said.

He added based on MAVCOM’s observation on April 16, one-way economy class airfare prices from April 27 to May 8 (observation period) were between RM105 and RM1,398 while, one-way fares from April 29 to May 1 were between RM195 and RM1,398.

During the monitored period, the majority of airline ticket prices available for purchase for all one-way economic flights to Sabah and Sarawak were only between RM300 and RM500, he said.
