KOTA SAMARAHAN: Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) is planning to create a bonsai park, aiming to draw tourists and promote natural planting activities.
DBKU Commissioner Hilmy Othman expressed that the park’s establishment will encourage broader interest in bonsai cultivation and serve as a valuable resource for the community on bonsai planting techniques.
“We are scheduled to visit Japan to explore potential collaborations with the Bonsai Association. This includes organizing bonsai exhibitions and overseeing the development of the bonsai park, as DBKU is keenly aware of,” he stated.
Othman shared these insights during a conversation with journalists at the inauguration of the Bonsai and Suiseki Championship 2024 at La Promenade shopping centre today (Sept 6).
He highlighted that the proposed location for the park is close to the orchid garden, a detail already discussed with the Malaysian Bonsai Association, Sarawak Bonsai Association, and the Indonesian Bonsai Association.
“I am confident that involving bonsai enthusiasts through their respective associations will greatly benefit us in establishing a bonsai park unique to Kuching. Though it will require time, it is never too late,” Othman remarked.
He viewed this initiative as a significant step towards enhancing the beauty of Kuching city, with Datuk Peter Minos, Chairman of the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council, in attendance during the earlier proceedings.
