KUCHING: Initiatives taken by the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba Sarawak) have raised public awareness on safety.
Bomba Sarawak director Datuk Khirudin Drahman stated programmes like ‘Kelab Keselamatan Kanak’ (Kelab 3K), Celik S.U.R.I (Sedia Urus Risiko Isirumah), Bomba community, Kita Selamat and many more were successful in not only raising public awareness, but also in bringing forth potential “champions” for the task force.
“We believe that public awareness on safety is steadily increasing as the programmes were carried out across all levels of demographics.
“The programmes done were also in line with the Second Core Safety and Practices Culture (Teras Kedua, Amanah dan Pembudayaan Keselamatan) of the National Fire and Rescue Policy (Dasar Kebombaan dan Penyelamat Negara (DPKN) 2021-2030),” he said.
Khirudin said Bomba Sarawak is welcomes collaboration with any government-linked companies (GLCs) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the state.
“Last year, the department had multiple collaborations with our strategic partners like Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), Petroleum Sarawak (Petros), Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), Yayasan Farley, Press Metal Sdn. Bhd., and many more.
“Additionally, Bomba Sarawak has established a Community Learning Centre (CLC) at the Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) together with Yayasan Farley which gives focus to school children and the community.
“Furthermore, Bomba Sarawak has also collaborated with our partners in spreading safety awareness to rural communities like in Long Bukang, Bario and Mulu,” said Khirudin.
A total of 92 Bomba Sarawak officers were awarded Excellence Service Awards by newly appointed director general for Malaysia Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) and Khirudin at the Sarawak Bomba Excellent Service Awards 2023 ceremony here yesterday (May 20).
