MUKAH: An unidentified body of a man was discovered washed ashore at Jebungan beach by members of the public on Thursday.
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said police were alerted of the discovery at 2.05pm and were dispatched to the scene immediately.
Upon arrival, the police found the dead body in grey shirt, boxer shorts and also gloves on the beach. There were no CCTVs or witnesses nearby.
“Preliminary examinations on the body did not yield any clues to the identity of the deceased due to the decomposed condition of the body”.
“The body was taken to Mukah Hospital for post-mortem,” he said.
He added an autopsy revealed no signs of foul play or struggle on the body and it is believed that the man had died within five to seven days.
After checking with Tatau police station, he confirmed that the body matched the description of a 23-year-old Indonesian boat crew, who was reported missing on February 25 after he fell into the water at Kuala Tatau estuary.
The case is still being investigated at press time.
