Body of missing man found afloat

KANOWIT: The body of a man reported missing at Nanga Sengkabang Matau in Sungai Machan on June 10, was found on Friday.

The State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement, said the body was found afloat around 9.45am about 5km from where he was last seen.

The victim, identified as Jonathan Madang, 40, was confirmed by family members at TR Maria Sebie Nyanai longhouse.

The body was handed over to the police for further actions.

Meanwhile, a search and rescue (SAR) operation involving firefighters, police, Civil Defence Force and longhouse residents, was called off at 10.45am following the discovery.

The victim had left the longhouse and headed to Sekabang river at 5.30am on Wednesday.

Around 6.20am, longhouse residents noticed his boat drifting but he was nowhere to be seen.

They then conducted a search for the victim but, to no avail. They only managed to find his footprints on the riverbank where he had tied his boat.

A police report was then lodged by the victim’s family members.
