Body of man found two days after falling from bridge

KUCHING: The body of a 34-year-old man who fell from Tun Salahuddin Bridge last Friday was found and recovered this afternoon (April 13).

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the body was spotted by the riverbank at 12.38 pm, about a kilometre downstream from where the man had fallen and not far from Persatuan Nelayan Bintawa Kotak.

Members of the public who found the body alerted the authorities, and rescuers were dispatched to retrieve it.

The body was later taken to the Sarawak Region Marine Department jetty before being handed over to the police for further action.

Following the recovery, the search and rescue (SAR) operation was officially called off at 1.40 pm.

Meanwhile, those experiencing emotional distress are encouraged to seek support from Befrienders, a non-profit organisation that offers free and confidential help through trained volunteers, from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm daily.
