KUCHING: It is not necessary to form a bipartisan committee on oil and gas, said Utility (Sarawak Energy and PETROS) Deputy Minister, Datuk Ibrahim Baki.

According to Ibrahim, issues pertaining to the matter are almost settled.

“It (issues on oil and gas) is more or less settled.

“PETROS and PETRONAS are engaging with one another, negotiating on the commercial settlement.

“So,it’s not necessary anymore (to form a bipartisan committee),” he told reporters when met at his Aidilfitri Open House held at Hikmah Exchange Event Centre here today.

Previously, the Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (DAPSY) Sarawak had proposed the establishment of a bipartisan committee on oil and gas to strengthen Sarawak’s position in negotiations with the federal government.

While Ibrahim expressed his gratitude to DAPSY for showing their concern and support in advocating for Sarawak’s rights, he noted that both PETROS and PETRONAS are still working on finalising the details.

“There are terms we have to agree upon so that it will be fair and equitable to both parties,” he said.
