BINTULU: The 2025 Back-to-School Programme – Bintulu Port Cares, sponsored by Yayasan Bintulu Port, continues to demonstrate its commitment to the community by sponsoring school supplies for 200 students from low-income families in three selected primary schools in Bintulu: SK Kampung Baru, SK Orang Kaya Mohammad and SK Tanjung Batu.
Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) general manager of stakeholder relations, Maslihah Tioh, said the programme, which began in 2012, aims to reduce the financial burden on underprivileged families and ensure students remain motivated to continue their education.
“This Bintulu Port Cares programme has helped many students since it was introduced. We hope this effort will encourage them to stay in school until they complete their studies.
“According to a statement by the Malaysian Minister of Education, financial constraints are identified as one of the main causes of school dropouts.
“Therefore, this initiative is considered significant in supporting students to remain committed to their education,” she said.
Maslihah said this during her speech, representing BPHB CEO Ruslan Abdul Ghani, at the 2025 Back-to-School Programme – Bintulu Port Cares held at a local hotel on Thursday (Dec 19).
Through a strategic collaboration with the Bintulu District Education Office (PPD), selected students received school supplies such as backpacks, stationery, uniforms, shoes and socks.
They were also taken to a selected supermarket to choose these items, guided by accompanying teachers and volunteers from BPHB staff.
A total of 22 accompanying teachers participated in this programme, which not only provided material assistance but also injected new enthusiasm into the students and their families ahead of the upcoming school year.
