BINTULU: The dress rehearsal for the 2022 Malaysia Day celebration, which is scheduled to take place this Friday (Sept 16), was held in full swing on Wednesday at Bintulu Old Airport.
Bintulu has been chosen to host the state-level Malaysia Day celebration this year where a total of 5,000 guests are expected to attend.
During the full rehearsal, dancers were seen donning their complete ethnic costumes representing the rich culture and heritage of the Bintulu folks comprising the Iban, Orang Ulu, Melanau, Chinese, Malay, Bidayuh, Kadayan and Vaie ethnics.
Local performers, as well as the country’s popular entertainers such as Datuk M. Nasir, Andi Bernadee, Ramles Walter, Florence Lo, Claudia Geres, Safar Ghafar, Sazia Selir and Max Kueh, are also slated to perform this Friday.
Visitors will also witness the Jalur Gemilang flag raising ceremony and fireworks display finale.
Modernisation of Agriculture and Regional Development Minister, who is also the minister responsible for the celebration, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, tasked to oversee the celebration, attended the dress rehearsal, Bernama reported.
Head of State, Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife, Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi Taib and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Puan Sri Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang are expected to grace the event.
The celebration will be broadcast live on TVS, Astro channel 122, myFreeview and on Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) Facebook and Youtube channel.
