KUCHING: The Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) has taken the right step in introducing and implementing Building Information Modelling (BIM) in infrastructure and building projects.

Director of JKR Sarawak, Dr Cassidy Morris, stated that the initiative provides deeper insights into the industry thus making it easier for stakeholders to apply the technology more effectively in daily work.

He pointed out that the BIM technology has proven to be a highly effective tool in enhancing efficiency, reducing errors, improving project timelines and quality, and accelerating the design and construction process.

“It not only impacts the construction sector but also paves the way for better and more effective asset management after project completion.”

He said this during PWD’s Building Information Modelling (BIM) Day at Waterfront Hotel here on Monday.

He further noted that, apart from technology, integrity and governance are critical foundations in every construction project.

“The exposure provided in this event will help JKR implement BIM more effectively moving forward.

“With the comprehensive adoption of BIM, I am confident we can overcome challenges in project planning and implementation more efficiently while enhancing collaboration and communication among all involved parties,” he added.

Cassidy hoped that the programme would foster networking, exchange of ideas and teamwork among all stakeholders involved in the state’s infrastructure development.

As a symbol of commitment, the ceremony also included an Integrity Pledge, reinforcing efforts to act responsibly and transparently in all actions.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also the Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development officiated at the event.
