TOKYO: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian wishes to have more exchange opportunities for Sarawakians living in Japan.

During his recent meeting with Malaysia Ambassador in Tokyo Anwar Udzir, he said that Japan is one of the earlier Asian Tiger nations economically, to which Sarawak can learn more for nation building.

“For example, Sarawak has benefited enormously from the regular visiting of the senior interventional cardiologists from Japan when we started our service at Sarawak General Hospital in 2001,” he said in his Facebook post.

He added that another reason for the state to establish its own airline is to reduce travel time.

“KL to Tokyo is less than 7 hours. Unfortunately because of the transit, the trip from Kuching to Tokyo ended up stretching 16 hours.

“Imagine travelling from Kuching to Tokyo, probably takes around 7 hours. It will not just greatly increase bilateral economy (tourism, energy related technological investments and technology transfer) but people-to-people bilateral relations that benefit Sarawak,” he added.
