MIRI: Worshipers and visitors attending church services or other activities held at Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) Taman Tunku Bahasa Kayan Miri will have a better parking spaces after the completion of the work to upgrade the church’s building parking area.

The project is fully funded by the State government through Telang Usan state assemblymen Dennis Ngau.

At a cheque presentation event held at the State Assemblymen’s Pusat Khidmat Masyarakat on Tuesday, Dennis hope with his small contribution the objectives to create more parking spaces will help to solves the parking problem faced by those who come and congregate especially on Sundays.

The problem stated since new church building was used since October 2017.

“Having attended several services and events held at the church I noticed congregators do find difficulties with parking and make worst as the church building is located within the Taman Tunku light industrial area,” Dennis opined.

Dennis revealed that a big sum of his Minor Rural Project (MRP) fund yearly has been channelled to fund churches, mosques and temples building upgrading and including to support various activities held by members of all these worship house.

“This show our State leaders and government support and care for all religions on this land,” he reckoned.

On hand to receive the MRP Cheque amounting to RM45, 000 was the church deacons lead by Deacon former Headmaster Wan Ngau Lah.

Initially opened as a branch church under the wings of BEM Bahasa Kayan Pujut 3 Miri, BEM Bahasa Kayan Taman tunku Miri has now grown into a full-fledged BEM church under the Borneo Evangelical Mission Church Sarawak with more than 800 registered members.

The church’s first premises was a rented shoplot located with Taman Tunku commercial area.

After several years the old venue became too small with the increasing members.

According to the church Treasurer Anyie Ajeng in view of the ever-increasing service attendance not only from registered members the church committee with support from BEM Headquarter has already submitted a fund request to Unit for Other religion (UNIFOR) Sarawak.

Even with the new church building bigger than the previous place it is already unable to hold all the service goers and this force us the committee to think and plan for the church needs, Anyie added.

Former Headmaster Wan Ngau conveyed the church thanks and appreciation to Dennis who is also a former deacon of BEM Bahasa Kayan Pujut 3 and the State Government for the continuous support the church received all these years without it the effort to provide a comfortable worship house will be difficult

BEM Bahasa Kayan Tamanku Miri members are mostly Kayans and those who could understand Kayan dialect from Baram and Belaga.
