KUCHING: The Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Road Race Championship is promising an even more dynamic and competitive event, attracting talented racers from across Malaysia in its second edition next year.
During the closing ceremony at DBKU Arena, Bukit Siol here today (Dec 10), Mayor Hilmy Othman revealed plans for a grander scale next year and announced a collaboration with the Royal Malaysian Police to accommodate a larger audience and more participants.
“The DBKU Road Race 1.0 Championship’s inaugural success has set the stage for an even more exciting next edition. We are looking forward to welcoming more international-level riders.
“This event is more than a competition; it’s about building cooperation and community spirit, aligning with DBKU’s mission to enhance the development and well-being of Kuching’s citizens,” Hilmy said.
The first edition of the tournament, organised in partnership with the Sarawak Cycling Association, saw a diverse participation of 301 riders, including international competitors from Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Nigeria, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.
Starting as early as 6.30 am, the tournament featured five categories: Open Men (120 kilometers), Open Master A (120km), Open Master B (60km), Open Women, and Youth (60km). The event was designed to showcase Kuching as an ideal destination for cycling tournaments, both locally and internationally.
The race route included several key locations, including Dewan Suarah Kuching, Jalan Sultan Tengah, and ended at DBKU Arena, Bukit Siol.
Also present were Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata and DBKU director Mohamed Khaidir Abang.
