SHAH ALAM: Padiberas Nasional Berhad (BERNAS) will reduce the price of Imported White Rice (BPI) effective tomorrow (Dec 1).
BERNAS said the price at its warehouse gates in Peninsular Malaysia will drop from RM3,000 to RM2,800 per metric tonne.
“This reduction aligns with the strengthening of the Ringgit against the US Dollar and the recent drop in global rice prices following India’s lifting of its export ban and abolition of export duties on non-basmati white rice,” said BERNAS in a statement.
This is the second price reduction by BERNAS this year.
In March, the company lowered the BPI price from RM3,200 to RM3,000 per metric tonne.
“The move reflects BERNAS’ commitment to supporting the government’s food security objectives and ensuring affordability for Malaysians,” it added.
Malaysia continues to offer the lowest imported rice prices in Southeast Asia, thanks to collaborative efforts between BERNAS and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS).
