KUCHING: This year’s Rainforest World Music Festival is already being hailed a success on the second day of the extravaganza.
Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Hamzah based this outcome on bullish online ticket sales, indicating a grander reception to this year’s festival.
“The atmosphere and the festival’s vibes are much better this year, online (ticket) sales has been stopped because there is just too many people.
“We want everybody to be happy and may this year’s festival be a memorable one for everyone,” he said in a press conference on yesterday (June 24) at the Sarawak Cultural Village here.
Despite being only the second day of the festival, Abdul Karim said the festival has been a success and hoped the even will continue to run as smoothly as possible.
In addition to that, Abdul Karim said through the years, the festival does not only prioritise the numbers but also advocates global requirements such as sustainability and providing an eco-friendly environment.
He was also proud that the festival has been able to assist the community in terms of entrepreneurship and business.
“I went around, and I asked those selling handicrafts and they seemed to be happy. We are helping the community and I’m very happy to see that happening,” he said.
In another development, Abdul Karim said Sarawak’s new airline would fly to neighbouring countries such as Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore.
“We are setting up our own airline and hopefully we can decide things on our own and one day will be able to fly to places such as Australia, and in Europe,” he said.
On his recent trip to Indonesia, he said he had a discussion with a subsidiary company of Garuda International Airlines as the state aims to enhance connectivity.
“I hope that there will be connectivity there, for us to grow, connectivity is very important,” he said.
