KUCHING: The public is advised to take extra precautions and safeguard their personal belongings while visiting the Kuching Festival Food Fair here.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) councillor Kho Teck Wan gave the advice following two snatch theft incidents that happened last Wednesday night involving two victims.

“I went to the Sekama police station to help a distressed victim who lost her purse at Kuching Festival Food Fair at around 10 pm tonight. The police station was busy as a young student who lost her mobile phone at the food fair was there to lodge a report as well.

“According to both victims, the thieves were operating in a team of three where two tried to push the victim while another team member snatched the victim’s belonging quickly without them noticing.

“Both victims reported missing personal belongings to the police officer at the food fair’s police booth. And the police officers acted quickly.

“They managed to get one of the perpetrators while the other two accomplices
managed to escape,” Kho said in a statement posted on her Facebook page, recently.

She then said, the police had informed that the perpetrator arrested was a repeated offender.

“Further investigation on both cases will be carried out,” she added.

Kho said that the police had made extra rounds and placed extra enforcement at the areas surrounding the MBKS City Hall since the beginning of Kuching Festival, and would continue to do so.

“Public is also advised to report any lost or stolen personal belongings to the police officer at the police booth at the food fair immediately,” she said.

She also expressed her sincere appreciation to all the police officers who are on duty at both the station and the Kuching Festival Food Fair.
