ASAJAYA: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) elected representatives need to be prepared for the coming 12th state election even though it is not known when it would take place, said Batang Sadong MP Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
She said as they prepare for election, it is also important to ensure the people continue to enjoy the services and various assistance provided by both the state and federal governments.
“We do not know yet when the election will be held. But as a Member of Parliament (MP), I want to expedite everything especially on the assistance application from the people, so that it can be approved and be channelled to the people before the end of the year.
“This is because when there is dissolution either at Sarawak assembly or Parliament, everything will be halted while we elect the government,” she told reporters after attending the Special Project Programme Monitoring Systems (SPPMS) cheque presentation programme at Daeng Pesandrek Hall, Iboi Ulu on Saturday.
She added this is why she urged community leaders to quickly gather the necessary information and submit any assistance applications to her so that the application process can be expedited.
“The GPS government has allocated RM1 million to MPs for the repair of dilapidated houses and there are still remains of the fund that have yet to be used.
“As such, I urge community leaders to help see whether there are any houses that need repair,” she said.
She said thus far a total of 109 houses in three constituencies (Sadong Jaya, Gedong, and Simunjan) have been repaired.
“There is also other allocation given by the federal government which is for the building of new houses under the Hardcore Poor Housing Programme (PPRT), and it can be applied through the District Office where they will pass the list of applications to us,” she said.
Nancy, who is also the federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister, earlier in her speech said the federal government also gives allocation to her ministry where such funds can be utilised to upgrade tourism spots.
“We have plenty of resources to help develop our area, to develop the state and to develop Malaysia as a whole, but all this requires our help as elected representatives including the community leaders to work together in helping those in need,” she said.
In a related event, she had also presented a cheque to non-governmental organisations, schools and associations totalling RM33,000 from the state government to carry out their activities.
