KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) employees must uphold their leadership qualities for other local councils to emulate, said Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
Citing their exemplary work as frontliners during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Sim lauded their sacrifices and dedication to the community.
“In an organisation like MBKS, everyone is a leader and as leaders, you must be passionate and love the job.
“This is for the community and the community happens to be the city of Kuching. We must do our job with pride and I will support you in whatever way I can,” Dr Sim said in his speech during the MBKS appreciation dinner here on Monday (Dec 12).
Adding on, Dr Sim, who is also the Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, said all local councils will be reviewed.
As MBKS is the largest of the 24 local councils in Sarawak, he said a review is needed to meet the rising expectations of the public.
He said reviewing works had been done at the northern and central regions while the southern region will be reviewed next under the Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government (Public Health and Housing) Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil.
The event also saw Dr Sim handing over pension appreciation awards to 28 MBKS staff members.
Also present were Dr Penguang; MBKS Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng; Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government permanent secretary Datuk Antonio Kahti Galis; Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang; MBKS Deputy Mayor Hilmy Othman and Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) director Mohamed Khaidir Abang.
