SIBU: A total of RM250,000 in funding from the federal and state governments was allocated to more than 100 longhouses in the Bawang Assan constituency, today (Jan 18).

The fund presentation was officiated by Senator Robert Lau, the former chairman of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch, at the SUPP headquarters.

“This is a Senator’s grant, with half of the funding provided by the federal government and the other half by the Sarawak government.

“My grant may not be much, but I will always allocate some of it to help the people in Bawang Assan, as the longhouses here are greatly in need of improvement,” he said at the ceremony.

Lau also encouraged all the longhouse chiefs to collaborate with the newly appointed SUPP Bawang Assan branch chief, Kevin Lau.

“We will always uphold his spirit and work closely with all the longhouse chiefs and residents in the Bawang Assan area to provide the best services and bring progress to this constituency,” he said.

Kevin also called on the people to continue supporting not only the SUPP Bawang Assan branch but also SUPP as a whole, as well as Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“You have already seen the efforts of the Sarawak government, especially in the field of education, so I believe that under GPS, Sarawak will continue to advance,” he said.
