BAU: The formerly dull and peaceful environment of Bau Town has been revitalised after vibrant LED lights and lantern decorations were installed at the town gate to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
The 10 LED lamp posts were put up along 200m of Jalan Datuk Temenggong Salau, making the space a central community hub, especially for tourists from beyond Bau District.
Deputy Transport (River and Sea) Minister Datuk Henry Harry Jinep formally opened the gateway last night.
He added that the opening started the Chinese New Year celebration and introduced a new and vibrant atmosphere to the old town.
“The feedback we got from our social media updates was very encouraging.
“This is what the people want, something new for Bau. You can no longer look at Bau as a place that darkens after nightfall. People want something different,” Henry told the media.
He noted that the ornamental arrangements took two weeks to finish despite the challenges of erratic weather patterns.
“It is hoped that the display of such decorations will help promote tourist arrivals in Bau, especially drawing people from Padawan, Penrissen and tourists from neighbouring Indonesia,” he added.
Henry, also the Tasik Biru assemblyman, explained that the ornaments and lights are multi-purpose and would be reused for other upcoming celebrations, such as Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Gawai Dayak and Christmas.
“After Chinese New Year, we’ll replace the lanterns with ketupat decorations. If utilised well, this can serve many occasions,” he concluded.
