BAU: Bau District Council will soon undergo a transformation with the development of a new council building that promises more space and operational autonomy.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said discussions have been held on the plan, which aims to improve the effectiveness of the council’s administrative functions.

“The new building will provide a more spacious environment for council operations, and it is important for the council to have its own autonomy to enhance efficiency,” he said.

He said this when witnessing the swearing-in ceremony of Bau District Council members today.

Dr Sim, who is the Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister, congratulated all 32 councillors appointed to the Bau District Council, comprising both new and reappointed members, and reminded them of the trust placed in them.

“There are 864 councillors across Sarawak.

“Take this responsibility seriously because it comes with recognition from our Head of State,” he added.

He also stressed that local residents should not only recognise their elected representatives but also be familiar with their local councillors, who are equally important in delivering community service and development.

“We are doing well, but we are doing better.

“Keep this in mind so that we can serve the community better and provide quality development for everyone,” he said.

Meanwhile, newly appointed Bau District Officer and Council Chairman, Eddy Nayoi, shared that the current term includes 14 new councillors, including himself, and 18 reappointed councillors.

He also expressed appreciation to local assemblymen, namely Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, Miro Simuh, Billy Sujang and Datuk Lo Khere Chiang, for their continuous support and contributions to Bau’s rapid development.

“This year, Bau will celebrate its 205th anniversary, which will be held alongside the Tasik Biru Festival, a sports carnival, and various other activities,” he said.
