KUCHING: The launch of Batik Air’s direct flights between Bintulu and Kuala Lumpur promises substantial benefits for business and tourism.
Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said with Bintulu’s continued growth as an industrial hub, the demand for flights has surged considerably in recent years.
“Delays in the delivery of new aircraft have affected Malaysia Airlines, resulting in schedule instability. The launch of this new route by Batik Air has eased passenger concerns,” he said in a Facebook post on Saturday.
Tiong, who is Bintulu MP, added that establishing this route was a challenging process, involving intricate preparation and the collective efforts of multiple stakeholders, including government agencies, the airline and dedicated officials.
“Today, the hard work and commitment of all parties have finally borne fruit,” he said.
Tiong also expressed appreciation for the Ministry of Transport’s support, which expedited the approval process, ultimately benefitting frequent travellers on the Bintulu-Kuala Lumpur route.
He went on to emphasise his commitment to strengthening connectivity across Sarawak, including linking Bintulu to more destinations.
“My ministry will continue working actively with domestic and international airlines to expand our network of routes.
“This commitment seeks to offer Sarawakians more travel options, support economic growth, and elevate Sarawak’s prominence on both the national and international stage,” he added.
