SRI AMAN: The Batang Lupar 2 Bridge is on track for completion in the first quarter of 2026, with construction progress now reaching 57.99 percent.
According to Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) Facebook post, the progress was highlighted during an official site visit by its director, Dr Cassidy Morris, recently.
He inspected the development of the bridge that is poised to become a new landmark for Sarawak and Malaysia.
In his address, Dr Cassidy reaffirmed PWD’s commitment to ensuring the project is delivered efficiently and safely, underscoring its long-term benefits to the people and the state’s development.
Standing at 145.5 metres, equivalent to a 45-storey building, and spanning 870 metres, the cable-stayed bridge is set to become the tallest of its kind in Malaysia.
Strategically located between Sri Aman and Betong, it will serve as a vital link connecting the Coastal Road with the Pan Borneo Highway, significantly improving connectivity and transport efficiency in central Sarawak.
During the briefing held at the site, Cassidy was also updated on the progress of the associated 21-kilometre road alignment.
This includes a 3.2-kilometre stretch into Sri Aman town and a 3.8-kilometre stretch to Betong town, forming part of the Sarawak Second Trunk Road.
Once completed, the bridge is expected to reduce the travel distance between Sri Aman and Betong from 71 kilometres to just 28 kilometres, thus cutting travel time from one hour to approximately 30 minutes.
