KUCHING: Malaysian singer-songwriter, producer, and actress Nor Ashima Ramli, better known as ‘Baby Shima,’ has lodged a police report after receiving a death threat on social media from a local man in Sarawak.
In a Facebook post, Baby Shima revealed that the threat was directed at her by an individual who expressed dissatisfaction with her presence in Sarawak.
Responding to the incident, the 32-year-old dangdut artist, who is currently in Sibu, received immediate support from Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, who is also Bintulu MP and Dudong assemblyman.
“Thank you, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, for coming to the Sibu police station last night (Dec 31).
“I didn’t expect it, and thank you so much, YB… Everything went smoothly,” she said in a separate post on Facebook.
The controversial comment, which sparked widespread outrage, read: “Lagi u masuk Sarawak. Hati-hati. Your enemy now aim you sudah. Jangan pulang Malaya dengan mayat saja, ok. Take care Baby Shima.”
The comment sparked outrage among netizens, with many showing support for the singer.
“Death threats are not part of Sarawakian culture, and anyone who makes them should face stern action,” one user commented.
Others condemned the individual involved, saying such a comment negatively impacted Sarawak’s reputation as a community known for its kindness, peace, and harmony.
Meanwhile, Baby Shima, best known for her song Bujang Sarawak, is set to perform at the ‘Motac Bersama Komuniti Sibu’ event on Dec 31, held at the Azman Hashim Community Sports Complex in Sibu Jaya.
