FOLLOWING its remarkable success in Malaysia, the producers of “Babah” have announced the film’s release in Singapore.
Nads Media Entertainment producer Nadia Mohd Nadzri shared that the family drama, which has grossed RM6 million in just three weeks, is also in demand for screenings in Borneo and Singapore after its viral success.
“Even after three weeks in theatres, there are still many eager to watch the film, and we anticipate a surge in viewership with the upcoming school holidays,” Nadia stated.
She attributed the film’s resonance to the sincerity behind its creation, saying, “We poured our hearts into this story, and that authenticity is what touches viewers. None of us expected Babah to go viral on social media or become a trending topic — it all happened naturally.”
Plans are also in motion to bring Babah to Indonesia in the near future, broadening its audience across Southeast Asia.
The film, featuring Qi Razali, Cristina Suzanne, Sweet Qismina, Kis Aisha, and Adam Lee, revolves around Isyak and his daughter Maya as they navigate life’s trials and triumphs.
While the film continues to receive widespread acclaim, lead actor Qi Razali remains modest about potential accolades.
“To be honest, I’m not expecting anything (awards). However, hearing the praise for my performance in this film did spark some thoughts about awards — but I quickly redirected my focus back to my career,” said the 47-year-old actor.
He added, “For me, if we approach our work with sincerity, give our best, and collaborate effectively as a team, the results will speak for themselves, InsyaAllah.”
Qi also expressed gratitude for the possibility of being acknowledged, saying, “If there’s an opportunity to be nominated for Best Actor, I’d be thankful. But even if that doesn’t happen, I’m already content knowing the film is receiving the recognition it deserves.”
