KUCHING: The audition for Encore Melaka for Kuching was successfully held on 29th July 2017 (Saturday) at Alexis Dance Sport Studio (ADS) here.
This was just the third round of the nationwide casting tour to be held throughout Malaysia in the months of July through August.
The event was attended by 37 participants including dancers, vocalists, actors, actresses and instrumentalists of different age groups from throughout the state, all of whom gave their best to impress the four professional judges and to earn an opportunity to join the theatrical performance scheduled to begin early next year.Selected participants will be joining the production team as early as the end of this year to begin the preparation works.
Encore Melaka is a state-of-the-art theatrical performance organised by Yong Tai Group through an international collaborative project with the globally renowned directors of the Impression series from China –Zhang Yimou, Wang Chaoge and Fan Yue.This happens to be the first installation of the renowned series to be produced outside of China, and Melaka will have the honour to stage this spectacular show.
The theatre which will stage the performance is currently under construction and is scheduled to be ready for the show from February 2018 onwards. By then, the venue will be staging two to three shows daily and will be targeting two million visitors from all around the world annually.
Established in 1998, the Impression series was co-founded by China’s three top directors, Wang Chaoge, Fan Yue and Zhang Yimou – more famously known as the “Iron Triangle”. The trio was also the key success behind the unforgettably impressive opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. With its distinctive concept of performing arts, the Impression series has successfully staged nine highly sought-after productions among which seven shows were conducted outdoors where the natural environment of real mountains, waters and life was weaved in as its backdrop, including Impression Sanjie Liu, Impression Lijiang, Impression West Lake, Impression Hainan, Impression Dahongpao, Impression Putuo and Impression Wulong. The subsequent series were staged indoors and they were titled under the Encore series, namely Encore Pingyao and Encore Mount Wutai. For the first time in history, the internationally-acclaimed Impression series ventured out of China to Melaka and it marks a brand new milestone for the perspective of Asian collaboration.
A nationwide audition tour were be held throughout Malaysia starting from 19 July at nine different locations to search for local talents in dance, vocal, drama and music. The nine selected locations are Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, Johor, Sarawak, Perak, Penang, Pahang, Kelantan and Sabah.
