KUCHING: Traditional music band, At Adau renowned for their unique fusion of Sarawakian inspired music with modern influences will be participating in ‘Sada Rimba Oceana-Asia Tour 2024’ in the coming month.
Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan said the group will represent and promote Sarawak on the international stage by performing at the Playtime Festival in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on July 7.
He said the event, which celebrate its 22nd anniversary would be attended by approximately 120,000 festival goers, where more than 50 groups and artists from 21 countries will be performing.
“This tour, supported by our ministry’s fund, underlines our unwavering commitment to nurture and showcase Sarawak’s unique cultural heritage.
“As the band is famous for their uniqueness, their embrace towards the spirit of innovation and tradition defines our artistic community,” he said.
He said this during the At Adau’s Sada Rimba Oceana-Asia Tour 2024 press conference at Baitulmakmur Building II here today (June 28).
“Among international artists who will perform with them during this tour are ‘Deafheaven’ from the US, ‘Teenage FanClub’ and Japan’s famous band ‘TOE’ and other musicians.
As such, Snowdan praised At Adau’s presence among respected artists as a testament to their extraordinary talent and universal appeal that expresses Sarawak culture.
“Mongolia, famous for its vast landscape and rich nomadic heritage, is a country that values cultural preservation and artistic expression.
“This joint appreciation for cultural heritage between Mongolia and Sarawak opens up exciting opportunities for cross tourism promotion.
“We encourage festival goers in Mongolia to explore the wonders of Sarawak, from our pristine rainforests and diverse wildlife to our vibrant cities and friendly and welcoming people,” he said.
Having said that, he also revealed that after At Adau’s performance in Mongolia, they will jet off to Janda Baik, Pahang for the Les’Tari Festival, on July 13 and 14 where they will be sharing the stage with the legendary Sheila Majid, Zainal Abidin, fellow statesman, Zee Avi, Alena Murang and many more.
“At Adau will further illuminate Sarawak’s vibrant cultural landscape, fostering a deeper appreciation and understanding of our artistic heritage.
“This tour is more than just a series of performances, it is a celebration of Sarawak’s diverse artistic expression and a powerful drive for international cultural exchange.
“By supporting initiatives like this, it highlights the government’s dedication to promoting Sarawak’s creative industries and performing arts globally,” he concluded.
