KUCHING: The state government will continue to support future editions of the ‘Jom Heboh’ Carnival, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said.

The Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Minister, who gave the assurance, said the carnival has brought various benefits, especially to Sarawak’s socioeconomic sector and tourism.

“The government, through my ministry, has supported programmes and various activities that can be participated by every level of society, including teenagers and families to fill their free time with beneficial activities.

“Therefore, organising a carnival like this provides a great opportunity for all of us to spend quality time with our family, neighbours and close friends,” he said  in his speech at the closing ceremony of the Jom Heboh Carnival at Detaran Perayaan, Petra Jaya here last night (Jan 29).

Abdul Karim expressed his gratitude for the robust support and response towards local products showcased at the 132 booths during the carnival, saying many local traders have been able to generate income and gain the much-needed exposure through this carnival.

“Therefore, we would like to thank the organisers who are willing to give local traders the opportunity to expand the reach of local products here,” he added.

The carnival also attracted residents from as far as Miri and Sibu.

The ‘Jom Heboh Carnival: Segulai Sejalai Sarawak 2024’ was held from Jan 26 to 28.

Among the artists performing at the three-day carnival were Baby Shima, Hael Hussaini, Rahmad Mega, Kaka Azraff, Liza Hanim, Aepul Roza, TujuLoca, Khai Bahar, and Rem.

Also present were the ministry’s permanent deputy secretary Desmond Douglas Jerukan, Media Prima Omnia chief operating officer Datuk Mohd Efendi Omar, and New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd group managing editor Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzaman.
