KUCHING: A recent viral TikTok video by Syawal Aidiel that allegedly insulted the Dayak community caught the attention of the Sarawak Rangers Veteran Association.

The association, represented by Warrant Officer 2 (B) Keliment Nyapong and several other members, lodged a police report against the user at the Sungai Maong police station at 11am on Tuesday (Nov 23).

Keliment, when met by the media said, veterans of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) in particular, viewed this issue as a serious matter because it could create anger among the Dayaks, particularly military veterans, throughout Sarawak and Malaysia.

“We represent all races and religions in the state and country, to lodge this report for the police to take action and investigate the owner of the TikTok account known as Syawal Aidiel.

“We hope actions will be taken so that such issue will not happen again in the future,” he said.

In the meantime, he reminded the public not to touch on sensitive issues related to racism, especially on social media.

Keliment said the peace and harmony of various races and religions in the country should be maintained in line with the concept of the Malaysian family as proclaimed by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri.

Earlier, a TikTok video showed a man known as Abah Boss, a YouTube content creator, who said the armed forces, regardless of navy, air and land, continued to arrest “stupid boys” by the sea, in forests and “silly Dayaks” who were about to enter Malaysia.

The one-minute video went viral on social media and received criticisms from the public, especially the Dayaks in Sarawak.

Both parties, Syawal Aidiel and Abah Boss, have apologized on their respective social media sites.
