SRI AMAN: The month of Ramadan often brings blessing to Muslims and highlights the importance of charity, said Lingga assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor.

She noted that the community must embrace a feeling of hunger and thirst during the month as it reflected the plight of the poor, marginalised, or those affected by disasters.

“Therefore welfare activities such as communal cooking of bubur lambuk and bubur pedas as well as the distribution of donations have been carried out in areas within my constituency.

“This is in line with our efforts to help the underprivileged group during the holy month,” she said in a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).

On the Majlis Ziarah UKAS @ Komuniti ‘Semarak Ramadan’ which was held at Lingga Futsal Court here on Wednesday (April 27), she commended the programme, saying it was a noble initiative by the state government through UKAS to gauge the issues faced by the local community.

“We can also take the opportunity to strengthen ties between each other, especially after many people’s lives have been affected by the COVID-19 virus over the past two years.

“At the same time, I would like to remind everyone to always adhere to all standard operating procedures (SOPs) while maintaining good personal health and safety even though our country has transitioned into the endemic phase,” she added.

Also present were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol, UKAS director Samat Junai, Lingga acting District Officer Frank Lani and Temenggong Mohamad Shah Achang.
