BINTULU: The fire victims at Kampung Sebiew here have caught the attention of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohammad Asfia Awang Nassar.
According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Asfia was on a visit to Bintulu and had visited the fire site in Kampung Sebiew yesterday.
During the visit, Asfia presented assistance in the form of basic necessities worth RM500 and cash of RM3,000 to each family at Surau Darul Taqwa Kampung Sebiew Bintulu.
Cash assistance of RM300 was also given to the nine affected students and another RM20,000 to upgrade the Surau Darul Taqwa.
Earlier, Bintulu Division deputy Resident Hussaini Hakim briefed Asfia on the assistance provided by the Sarawak government to the fire victims.
On July 2, fire destroyed 11 houses in Kampung Sebiew. However, no casualties were reported and all the occupants managed to escape.
