ASAJAYA: Residents in the Asajaya area are urged to progress in line with ongoing development and to reap its benefits, especially in the field of education, said its assemblyman, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Speaking at the Asajaya Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering here today, Abdul Karim who is also Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister, said rapid development is on the horizon for Asajaya.

It includes major infrastructure projects such as a new airport and port in Tanjung Embang, as well as the dual carriageway linking Kampung Baru to the coastal highway.

“Transformations like this will drive local progress, including increasing land value and so on.

“That’s why, as I mentioned in my speech earlier, we do not want the people to be left behind.

“When development comes, the people must also rise with it. One key area is education.

“That’s why I want to see, and so does our Kota Samarahan MP, Datuk Rubiah Wang, the people in this area striving to improve themselves economically and intellectually.

“Alhamdulillah, many people from Asajaya have already entered university,” he said when met by reporters.

On the event, he said the Hari Raya gathering, held annually, not only celebrates the festive season but also strengthens unity among the multiracial community in the area.

“The atmosphere today is lively, and I’m pleased to see people of all backgrounds, the Malays, Chinese and Dayaks coming together.

“This is the spirit we want to instil on unity, tolerance and mutual understanding,” he said.

On another note, according to Abdul Karim, plans for the new airport and port involve building bridges connecting Tanjung Embang to two artificial islands and back to Tambirat and Sambir.

If fully implemented, he said the development could transform Asajaya into a major satellite city.

“This kind of development will uplift the area and increase land value, but what’s more important is ensuring our people are ready and capable of seizing the opportunities that come with it,” he said.
