KUALA LUMPUR: The welfare of local arts enthusiasts will be more secure with the implementation of a contribution scheme to the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) and the Social Security Organisation (Socso). President of the Institute of Arts and Media Studies Malaysia (Semesta) Dr Mahadi J Murat said the recent announcement by the National Film Development Corporation (Finas) that contributions would enforced from next year was welcomed.
“With the scheme, there is some sort of protection and welfare benefits for artistes, arts enthusiasts and film industry employees,” he said in a statement yesterday.
On Aug 26, Finas chairman Datuk Hans Isaac announced that it had reached an agreement with EPF and Socso to allow contributions for arts enthusiasts. Mahadi said the contributions should be carried out in a way which does not burden the affected parties. – Bernama
