LONDON (United Kingdom): Mikel Arteta declared the Premier League title race “on” after Arsenal thrashed Crystal Palace 5-1, cutting the gap to just three points behind leaders Liverpool.
Gabriel Jesus netted twice, while Kai Havertz also added a goal. Arsenal secured the win, moving back into third place, ahead of Nottingham Forest.
Palace’s Ismaila Sarr equalized after Jesus’ opener but missed two key second-half chances. Arsenal capitalised, with Jesus scoring again from a corner and Havertz tapping in after Jesus hit the post. Declan Rice added a fifth in the 84th minute.
Arteta, celebrating five years in charge, expressed confidence in the team’s form, saying, “We’re winning, we’re in a really good run at the moment.”
Arsenal, now in third, are within reach of Liverpool, although the latter has two games in hand. Chelsea sits second, just ahead of Arsenal by a point. – AFP
