LUNDU: The army yesterday intercepted an all-purpose vehicle (APV) and two motorcycles which were ferrying five illegal immigrants out to Indonesia.
The First Infantry Division, in a statement, disclosed that the convoy was intercepted around 7am in the Kandaie army post sector.
“Three suspicious vehicles were spotted using the main route of an oil palm plantation to Indonesia, which is about 50 metres from the Malaysia-Indonesia border.
“Acting quickly, the team managed to intercept and detained the APV and motorcycles for inspections.
“Preliminary inspections found that three illegals acting as the riders and driver, were bringing five illegal immigrants out of Sarawak,” the army said.
The illegals consisting of seven men and a woman, failed to submit any valid cross-border documents and they had expired passports.
In addition, they were also found to be in possession of two air rifles, two machetes and drug processing tools.
The items, including handphones and some cash valued at around RM50,000 were seized.
All of the illegals aged between 17 and 43, were handed over to Lundu police station for further action.
