Army housing project 50 per cent complete, ahead of schedule

KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Multi-Class Armed Forces Family Housing (RKAT) construction project, set for completion by February 2026, has reached 50.05 per cent progress, putting it seven days ahead of schedule.

Works (KKR) Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan shared the update following his official visit to the project site today.

The RM116 million residential quarters project spans an area of 28.3 acres, and includes the construction of 190 RKAT units.

They consist of one unit of Class B2 bungalow, three units of Class B1 bungalows, three units of Class C4 bungalows, nine units of Class C3 bungalows, 30 units of Class C2 semi-detached houses, 32 units of Class F apartments, and 112 units of Class G apartments.

In addition, various basic facilities are being constructed such as a surau, kindergarten, nursery school, garbage house, pump house as well as mechanical and electrical infrastructure.

“The RKAT construction, which began on May 9 2023, has made steady progress and is expected to be fully completed as scheduled by February 2026.

“It could also be fully completed by end of 2025, depending on its progress.

“The use of Industrialised Building Systems (IBS) and Building Information Modelling (BIM) has helped accelerate construction while reducing reliance on manual labour, particularly foreign workers,” he said at a press conference.

Ahmad also shared that the Public Works Department (PWD) is currently managing 47 Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) projects worth RM4.32 billion in various pre-construction and construction phases.

“For pre-construction works and the tender process, 24 projects worth RM1.81 billion are in progress.

“As for projects already under construction, 23 projects nationwide – spanning from Perlis to Sarawak and Sabah – amount to RM2.50 billion,” he said.
