MIRI: A man was robbed while working in a budget hotel at Bandar Baru Permyjaya here early yesterday morning.

Miri Deputy Police chief Superintendent Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the incident happened around 3.50am when the victim was on duty at the hotel’s receptionist counter before he was approached by a suspect wearing a helmet.

“In the incident, the suspect pretended to ask for a room in the hotel before he pointed a machete (parang) at the victim’s face.

“The armed man then took RM1,142 in cash from a drawer in the counter before he left,” Stanley said.

He added that the victim lodged a police report at 7am.

Following the report, police immediately conducted an investigation including examining closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) installed around the hotel area.
