SIBU: Job seekers, especially the school leavers, are advised to not be easily deceived by high pay job advertisements published on social media but instead apply from more relevant and reliable agencies such as Social Security Organisation (SOCSO).
In making the call, Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek said that most of the job advertisements posted on social media such as Facebook are unreliable, especially those jobs with high pay promises.
“It (right channel) is very important, especially now at Facebook, there are so many scams (job opportunities) I would say. So, (it is safer) if they can register themselves under the new portal provided by the SOCSO.
“Once they register, they (SOCSO) will be able to match them (job seekers) with the company and then they will be able to get the employment,” he said when met by reporters after officiating at the opening ceremony of the Career Carnival and PC Fair yesterday.
Chieng also noted that during this post COVID-19 period, a lot of business activities had resumed and are open, hence the employer would seek more eligible workers for their company.
“They (employers) can also register under SOCSO and they (SOCSO) will come and help them to get the workers that are qualified and suitable for the company,” he said.
On the event, Chieng pointed out that it is his way as the people’s representative to help job seekers, especially among school leavers to have the right channel for them to get job opportunities.
“It is important as a ‘wakil rakyat’ for this area that we need to help people to get back to their normal life to get jobs so that they can earn for a living.
“We have 23 booths (conduct job interviews) and there are 179 different kinds of jobs and there are 838 vacancies available this time so for those who are looking for a job, please come to our carnival at Sibu Civic Centre,” he said.
He hoped that the public would grab these golden opportunities and secure their future job during the carnival being held starting yesterday until today (from Sept 10 to 11).
