KUCHING: Any application pertaining to the development of a bird nest initiative, that has been directed to Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), will be submitted to the State Planning Authority (SPA) for comprehensive assessment.
Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Deputy Minister, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, emphasised on the imperative of conducting a thorough review of the application to ensure its compliance with all relevant guidelines prior to granting approval.
“There are four stages for the SPA.
“The first one is chaired by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, second is chaired by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, third is chaired by the State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and fourth is chaired by myself.
“What has come to light as a problem is that those involved in the bird nest industry have unlawfully established their enterprises within city limits, specifically in shophouses.
“Industry participants are authorised to submit applications.
“However, they must meticulously adhere to the established guidelines to ensure a fair and orderly process,”he said.
He said this when met by reporters at his Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House celebration at Demak Jaya here today.
Acknowledging the fluctuations within the industry, Len emphasised the significance of comprehending these variations.
He further reassured that there exist well-defined protocols to foster the industry’s advancement while upholding public health standards.
“Birds have the potential to harbour diseases, viruses, bacteria and other pathogens.
“Hence, it is imperative that we remain vigilant and stringent in upholding these regulations,” he added.
His Hari Raya Open House was attended by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, with dignitaries such as Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, Tourism Creative Industry and Performing Arts Deputy Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting Yew Chew, and Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Ir Lo Khere Chiang.
