KUALA LUMPUR: Baram member of parliament (MP) Anyi Ngau has been appointed the new chairman of the Malaysian Pepper Board (MPB), Sarawak Deputy Minister II of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Willie Mongin, said.

Anyi replaces Julau MP Larry Sng Wei Shien.

“His appointment is very significant for Sarawakians, especially pepper smallholders as 98 percent of the country’s pepper farming sector comes from the state,” Willie said in a media conference in Parliament yesterday.

He said MPB is an agency under the Plantation Industries and Commodities Ministry that has been actively promoting the sector’s upstream and downstream activities to be line with market demands.

Anyi’s appointment is hoped to forge closer cooperation between the federal government and Sarawak, he said. − Bernama
