KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim chaired the Special Meeting on Sarawak Development 2025 at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.
The meeting aimed to strengthen ongoing collaboration between the federal government and the state government in pursuing comprehensive development initiatives.
Also present were Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, as well as Deputy Premiers, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.
The discussions began with a presentation on the Sarawak Gas Roadmap (SGR) by Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (PETROS) Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Datuk Janin Girie.
He outlined strategic plans to develop Sarawak’s gas sector, including increasing natural gas production capacity, expanding energy infrastructure, and investing in downstream industries to solidify Sarawak’s position as a leading regional energy hub.
This was followed by a briefing from State Financial Secretary, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, on the role of the Sarawak Development Bank (DBOS).
Lizozman explained how DBOS is driving regional economic growth by financing strategic projects that directly benefit the people of Sarawak, particularly in infrastructure, education and business sectors.
The one-hour meeting also touched on the proposed development of a deep-sea port in Tanjung Embang, inspired by the design and operations of Japan’s Kobe Port.
Positioned as a key strategic infrastructure project, the port is expected to significantly strengthen Sarawak’s maritime logistics network and unlock greater economic potential for the state.
The meeting concluded with a symbolic gift exchange, as Abang Johari presented a memento to Anwar.
