KUCHING: The Piasau Nature Reserve is celebrating another successful nesting season, as Oriental-pied hornbills, Jimmy and Valentine, have become parents.
In a Facebook post today, Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) shared that an observation was conducted on the nest of Jimmy and Valentine at the nature reserve on March 5 at 2 pm.
SFC confirmed that both Valentine and her chick were in good health, marking a positive outcome for the nesting season.
This successful nesting is particularly significant as it is Jimmy’s first recorded nesting as an Oriental-pied hornbill, with Valentine being his third mate.
The pair entered their nest cavity on November 29, 2024, and completed the fledging process successfully.
Valentine fledged on March 3, 2025, followed by their chick at 3.30 pm on March 4.
This achievement is another testament to the ongoing and effective conservation efforts by SFC to maintain active, healthy breeding sites for Oriental-pied hornbills in Sarawak, particularly in urban park areas.
