KUCHING: In an effort to mitigate the spread of Covid-19, all congregational worship services in all Anglican churches and chapels throughout Sarawak will continue to be suspended irrespective of zone colour.
Right Reverend Datuk Danald Jute, Bishop of the Anglican Church in Sarawak and Brunei, said this suspension of congregational gathering would also involve wedding blessings, funerals, baptisms and other pastoral worship and services.
“Churches may only open for the purpose of conducting online streaming or recording of worship services, with a small team of not more than 12 persons, with strict adherence to the standard operating procedures,” he said on Monday.
He said all meetings, trainings, teachings, bible studies and so on are to be done online.
“This Diocesan guideline is with immediate effect until further notice from us.
“We are witnessing a sharp increase in the number of Covid-19 cases throughout Sarawak over the last one week. Today (Monday), only two zones remain green,” he said.
He noted that the conditional movement control order had been extended throughout the state, with stricter enhanced movement control order enforced at various locations.
“As a church, it is imperative that we continue to do our part to mitigate the further spread of this dreadful virus and to protect everyone,” said Danald.
