KUCHING: The first Train-The-Trainers (TTT) for Analog Integrated Circuit (IC) design training will be held over four weeks in January next year.
Sarawak Microelectronics Designs (SMD) Semiconductor chief executive officer Shariman Jamil said the training which will be carried out at its office and led by Synopsys, will involve professionals, academic researchers, lecturers, and professors with relevant experience in the electronics or microelectronics sector.
“Our trainers will undergo the TTT programme to ensure they possess the essential skills to guide our graduates towards becoming proficient IC designers and IC test engineers.
“This TTT for semiconductors and chip design serves to enhance the skills and competencies necessary for the effective training of our trainers and equip them with the ability to manage training sessions efficiently,” he said.
He said this during the official launching of the TTT: Talent Development in Semiconductors and Chip Design ceremony here on Tuesday (Nov 14).
Shariman added the TTT training modules and programme which encompass the training for Analog IC Design, Analog IC Layout, and IC Testing have been developed since June this year with the industry players namely, Melexis and Synopsys.
“The modules go beyond conventional training; they focus on empowering trainers, equipping them with the latest technology, tools and methodologies.
“This way, our trainers can, in turn, inspire and educate a new generation of IC professionals, guaranteeing long-term excellence,” he said.
He also said SMD intends to invite lecturers from higher institutions such as Swinburne Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, i-CATS University College, Univeristy Technology Sarawak (UTS), Curtin University, Univerisiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), Polytechnics, Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (Centexs), Sarawak Skills and others.
“Their participation in the TTT programme will help shape the next generation of professionals in Analog IC design at their institutions and enable them to excel in this specialised field of semiconductor,” he said.
Shariman also said that SMD has attached one of the trainers to be trained in the field of IC Tests in collaboration with Melexis Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria.
“When he comes back, he will be equipped to impart the knowledge and skills needed to train graduates who will then join our talent programme under the purview of Centexs,” he said.
Additionally, he said, SMD has four Melexis engineers from Europe who are attached to SMD’s office, working alongside its engineer for a year or more.
Meanwhile, starting Nov 20, there will be a seminar on IC Design and Electronic Design Automation (EDA) at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), and lecturers and trainers from universities and training institutions interested are welcome to participate in the seminar.
