KUALA LUMPUR: With Lee Zii Jia out due to injury, all eyes are now on Leong Jun Hao as he represents Malaysia in the men’s singles at the Malaysia Open 2025, beginning today.
. Competing in his first-ever Malaysia Open, Jun Hao admitted to feeling the pressure of being the nation’s sole hope in front of home fans at the Axiata Arena.
“I will discuss with the coach on how to reduce the pressure,” said the 25-year-old, acknowledging the heightened stress of playing at home. Jun Hao’s challenge begins with a match against world number 16, Lu Guang Zu, whom he has never faced before but who previously defeated Zii Jia in the first round of the same event last year.
Jun Hao expressed his excitement about competing in his first Super 1000 tournament and aims for greater consistency in higher-level events. He is also optimistic about the impact of new national singles coach Kenneth Jonassen from Denmark, who brings vast experience from coaching in Denmark and England.
Despite the pressure, Jun Hao remains focused on giving his best performance at the Malaysia Open, hoping to make a significant impact in the tournament. – BERNAMA
